The Lightning Bolt Route

In Inca times, the lightning bolt was considered a powerful deity that announced the arrival of rain and a good harvest. It was considered the supreme light, creator of life and was the deity that connected the strength of the material world with the power of the spiritual world.

This 5-hour hike, specially designed for people without much hiking experience, starts with a short ride to the trailhead with a guide with knowledge of diverse hiking trails not used by traditional tourists. The tour starts in Tambomachay, a temple where the Incas used to worship water. Then, we will hike to Puca Pucara, the Temple of the Moon, to Q’enqo which is a mausoleum and Temple of Fertility, Saqsaywaman or Temple of the Lightning Bolt and Cruz Moqo, from where you will be able to admire the City of Cusco and the beautiful statue of the White Christ. We will hike back to Cusco and enter the city around the colonial neighborhood of San Blas, walking along beautiful streets, all the way to the Main Plaza.
