Waqrapukara
Mysterious Waqrapukara is a relatively new discovery and is yet to be deciphered by archeologists and discovered by tourists. Waqrapukara is a Quechua word. Waqra means ‘horns’ and pukara means ‘fortress’. It is obvious that the 2 peaks look like horns. But, because of its location at the top of the mountain, could it have also been a fortress? Then, there is the existing architecture with finely finished granite structures commonly found in religious sanctuaries. And, a small window that not only frames a magnificent view, but which could have also been used for astronomical events. Waqrapukara leaves a lot to the imagination, but somethings, like the beautiful stonework throughout the site, which blends perfectly with the landscape, cannot go unnoticed.
At 4,300 meters above sea level (14,100 ft), this is a moderate to difficult hike due to the high altitude and thin air. The hike itself is an enchanting route full of magnificent views of the landscape, mountains and lagoons. Thus, it is recommended for people with a high level of physical fitness.
